THE OMEGA MATH TOURNAMENT

Math Competition with a Growth Mindset

Orlando Prep is proud to host its own math competition series. The Omega Math Tournament, aka TOMaTo, will provide a challenging but friendly math competition experience. We will host weekly, on-site competitions in three different divisions on Saturdays. We also offer practice review sessions on the following Sundays called SOU:P

Division A (Grades 2-4)

Division A is designed for the youngest students. Its focus is arithmetic fluency, basic pre-algebra, and basic geometry.  It involves relatively simpler word problems. Pacing is also a little slower compared to other divisions. The goal is to introduce the wonderful world of competitive math, develop basic problem solving skills, and provide a solid background that students can build upon.

Division B (Grades 4-6)

Division B assumes a certain level of experience and drive. Its level of difficulty and pacing is considerably higher than Division A. The questions more often delve into more complex pre-algebra, algebra and geometry topics. Counting and Probability becomes a major component. Word problems get more complex and involve trickier language.

Division C (Grades 6-8)

Anything below Calculus is a fair game. Fast-paced rounds with challenging questions that require experience and/or creativity.

Format:

Each competition has three official rounds and one unofficial round.

Fluency round: 60 questions, 10  minutes. No calculators!

Sprint round: 25 questions, 25 minutes (30 min in Division A) No calculators!

Problem Solving round: 10 questions, 20 minutes. Calculators are allowed.

Personal Relay (Unofficial): 10 questions, 12 minutes. No calculators! Does not count toward overall score but it is a potential tie breaker.

Location(s):

ToMaTo is currently available only at our learning center located at Hiawassee Plaza. (6489 W. Colonial Dr. Orlando, Fl 32818).  If you'd like to host the competition, please contact us at info@orlandoprep.org

Students will be able to improve their mastery by learning how to solve various questions they have seen the day before. The SOU:P sessions will follow the same schedule as Saturday Competitions.

Division-A: 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Students with fever and/or excessive coughing will not be allowed to compete. If a child is sick, or there was any suspected possibility of Covid exposure, please keep your child(ren) at home. We will fully refund you. Parents, while being greatly appreciated, are not allowed into venue during competition AND award ceremony to minimize crowding/mixing. We will take plenty of pictures and share them with you on a password protected site. Participation in TOMaTo is entirely optional and voluntary. Despite precautions, and just like in any other gathering, we cannot guarantee that there won't be any Covid transmission. If a participant is reported to be Covid positive, we will inform all participants ASAP.
